Vinča Institute Becomes Key Partner in EU Project for CBRN Critical Infrastructure Protection
On March 12 and 13, the Vinča Institute of Nuclear Sciences hosted representatives of Project 101: Enhance CBRN Critical Infrastructure Protection and Security in South East and Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Middle East regions, funded by the European Union. The aim of the meeting was to present the scientific and market capacities of the Institute and to define future activities within the project.
The Vinča Institute was represented by a delegation consisting of: Dr. Marija Janković, Assistant Director for Science; Dr. Milica Ćurčić, Chief Safety and Security Officer; Dr. Ivana Perović, Head of the HBRN Center; Dr. Predrag Božović, Deputy Head of the Laboratory for Radiation and Environmental Protection; Ivan Milanović, Head of the IT Department; Dr. Jadranka Miletić Vukajlović, Research Associate; and Uzahir Ramadani, Systems Engineer. Also in attendance were representatives from the Ministry of Interior of Serbia: Police Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Belić, National Focal Point for the EU CBRN Centre of Excellence; Milan Kocić, Head of Department at the Emergency management sector; and Nikola Maksimović, representative of the same sector.
As part of the two-day visit, the guests toured the CBRN platform and several laboratories within the Institute, gaining insight into Vinča’s capacities and potential in the field of critical infrastructure protection. Project 101 representatives presented the project's main goals and activities, including the enhancement of physical and cyber protection of CBRN facilities, the development of risk assessment methodologies, and the organization of specialized trainings and exercises. The Vinča Institute has been recognized as the primary partner and implementing institution for Project 101 in Serbia. In the upcoming period, special focus will be placed on strengthening the Institute’s digital security through the establishment of procedures, organization of targeted training programs, and procurement of necessary equipment. This project further confirms the importance of the Vinča Institute as a leading research institution in the field of CBRN security in the region.
